The A.W.S.M. Project at MCC Public School
The A.W.S.M. (Automatic Waste Segregating Machine) project is a sustainability-focused project to solve waste segregation problems. This project is a collaborative effort with GEMS OOW School, Dubai. The machine automatically segregates four different kinds of waste in the respective waste receptacles by using Machine Learning. The core idea is to incentivise the process of recycling to the users by providing them with redeemable points which can be redeemed in their local community stalls/shops.
The project is a success and has been commended by Universities and Entrepreneurs. The AWSM Project also won the first prize in the "Science & Technology Concept Display Competition" issued by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation for its unique concept and approach.
The CET (Carbon Emission Tracking) Device is the social impact project associated with the virtual curriculum of the AFS Global STEM Academies. The project is a preventative measure to reduce carbon emissions. The device measures the amount of Carbon Emission released per liter of fuel consumed in automobiles. In the age of Global Boiling, where it has become imperative that mankind do its part in saving the planet, this device is a small step towards preventing climate change. The project's focus is towards the climate-conscious people who intend to reduce carbon emissions; this simple and easy-to-use device will help measure carbon emissions released by automobiles so as to help the people manage their carbon emissions on daily basis and reduce them.
This project was merited with special recognition, for which I was invited to the United Nations Science, Technology, and Innovation Forum (UNSTI Forum); for an official virtual side event organized by AFS Intercultural Programs, where I had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion on "Advancing the SDGs through Sustainability-Infused STEM Education."
